Congratulations to Mayor Still and the Council. They successfully stuck it to the taxpayer again.

From Ani Dadron: My dog Gretchen died peacefully last week while we were up in Maryland. She's buried on my friends farm near the miniature donkey's corral. Thanks to all for your kind words about the good ole big red dog. She was a sweetheart.

As much as some members of council claim the mayor appears to have acted inappropriately, if not actually breaking the code of ethics, some committee members might take heed too. I heard the committee meetings for Good Friday and on Monday were cancelled just before the starting time, as citizens showed up for the meetings. How rude and arrogant of these committees. Interested residents work their schedules around the meeting times, even if on a public holiday such as Good Friday which doesn’t seem very respectful of citizens. The new time for the investigation committee, 11 a.m. today, is rude. The committee must know that some residents interested in the topic – like me – may not be able to leave work to attend.

Committee members, just like residents sharing opinions about inappropriate behavior of the mayor, know that your actions are open to scrutiny too. This public rudeness and arrogance makes me wonder what other activities might be going on that don’t take care of the citizens best interests. One of the council people in a recent AJC article commented about a pattern of behavior regarding the mayor and investigative accusations. People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.

As chair of the committee in question, i take full responsibilty for the false starts. The intent was neither arrogance nor rudeness nor any type of disrespect to the citizens of this town. The intent was to follow the letter and spirit of the law.

Council as a whole should not be blamed for my shortcomings.

Mr. Chair of said committee I would like to know something. First of all, you mention, "The intent was to follow the letter and spirit of the law" in your last comment. However, during the committee meeting held today, it seems a lot of relevant questions were asked by the accused in that meeting, and the Chair as well as it's members appeared as if they did not know what was going on or, once again, withholding information from the public. My questions are:

How can you all as a committee take measures to ensure fairness and equality during these preceedings?

How can these investigations go forward to the citizens when the code obviously, was not followed?

How can the identity of the complainant/s be withheld from the citizens when, one of them turns out to be the same person who read the inquiries on Feb 7, 2006 council meeting?

How can the committee members change without consulting the city attorney and publicly announcing the updated information?

I have many more questions regarding this but, I don't want to clutter my blog.

I ask these questions because, the visual aspect of everything announced on Feb 7, 2006 seems highly questionable. No updates provided to citizens made available, everything in detail is confined to the so-called executive seesions (whatever agenda that represents), and the biggest seemed to be screw up of all, notifying the press without being able to back it up!!!

We want answers RIGHT NOW!!

Everyone has an opinion and this is mine> You all need to find something else to do with your time that would benefit the city as a whole, and stop this madness.

This is only going to prove nothing at the slow and crooked way you all are driving this thing. Someone needs to pull this council over and cite them for being the careless most irresponsible body on the face of the planet.

A lesson to be learned: Here's a tip, do your research first, and be able to respond with confidence when being asked questions, before diving into an empty pool full of broken glass.

You stated, "The intent was to follow the letter and spirit of the law", I say not likely.

Four undated ethics complaints against the mayor give the appearance of collusion. Such documents have legal ramifications and it would be instinctive for at least one person to place a date on theirs, if they were prepared independently.
Chances are the complaints were prepared or supervised by several of the council members themselves with one person behind them.
I don’t know the facts behind the complaints, but how they were prepared and presented is offensive.

The latest audio could spell big trouble for some members of council. No doubt the law has been broken. To hear the stumbling and fumbling responses is not a good sign for our investigators in training. I would not be surprised if this whole thing ends up before a judge and jury. The real tragedy here, besides what the accused has been subjected to, is that some decent council members followed the wrong leader and they too may be caught up in the mess before it's all over.

So telling it is that Investigations Chairwoman Julia Neal has stepped down so she could file the complaints that never existed. She lied to her fellow council members and the public when she said she needed emergency legal funds to respond to an ethics complaint. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. It is also very disappointing that the mayor pro tem blindly followed along and has probably gotten herself in a real pickle too. She has presided over what appears to be a corrupted process. She has been around long enough to know better. There will eventually be a day of reckoning and people will be held accountable. It's a real shame.

Uncle,

I can't speak for other council members but if you believe i broke the law i would suggest you file an ethics complaint against me. That is what the code is there for. I trust the citizens of this fair city to judge the issue fairly.

I refuse to be intimidated for simply doing my job to the best of my ability.

Damp,

when the documents are available to the public you will see that they were dated. I mispoke, as the notary seal and date stamp was further into the documents than i expected.

Bill, are you saying that you did not know the complaints were dated and notarized until after you announced the complaints in a public hearing and set up the ethics hearing?

I know you mean well and that there are some new and inexperienced council members but that is no excuse for moral improprieties.
It says a lot that you will directly communicate with the public.

No, I am saying, just as i said on the recording, that i didn't see the date and notary stamp, when i was trying to answer the mayor's question.

How that becomes a moral issue is beyond me.
