13.33...are you serious? Sounds like the budget needs a close look. A rate of 13.33 must be a misprint, unless spending is out of control.

It's a proposed 24.46% property tax millage rate increase.

That does not include any increases from a possible increase in taxes from Fulton or Cherokee County. These counties have either already raised taxes or are in the process of reviewing the property tax valuations in Mountain Park

The overview pages of the budget totals were presented last night at the meeting. Here is the detail for the overview pages -- a complete line item budget to see the proposed spending by each of the city's departments. The complete budget also shows amounts for each line item from 2011 through proposed 2015.

It doesn't do much, if any, good to complain about the tax rate unless there is a suggestion as to where to cut the budget. Once the budget is set it's a simple division problem to arrive at the mill rate. As I don't see anything in the budget that we should not spend money on I support the rate hike. That hike is very much preferable to going into debt to keep our town going. We're fortunate to have a mayor and council to do the hard work of arriving at the budget.
